Stress and Accentuation Marks
(Acento e Signi de Acento)
 

The stress in Venetan may fall on the ultimate, penultimate or antepenultimate syllable or on the fourth syllable from the last.

An accentuation mark is written:

  1. on the penultimate position is written only on close ó, close é: tóxo, toco, conposto, sóto, soto, sóra, sora, méso, mexo, fiaco, inbriago, scuro, inpuro, produtivo, linea, aria, serio, segretaria, portela, fradelo...
  2. in all other cases: àsido, ùmido, pòrtego, móstrame, mostràndomelo, pènsaghe, strénxelo, statìstico, parò, parché, gavéa, sarìa, finìo, partìi, ciapài, vegnùe, segretarìa...
  3. verbs with accentuation mark retain it even in derived voices: te cantarè => cantarèto? , mostrè => mostrème! mostrèla!, portè => portèla!...
An accentuation mark is not written:
  1. on words ending in consonant: paron (=parón), saver (=savér), vocal (=vocàl);
  2. on some very frequent words: come (=cóme), questo (=quésto), quelo (=quélo), mentre (=méntre), invese (=invése), 'ndo (='ndó)...
