Adjective (Agetivo)
 
 
As in the other Romance languages, the adjectives in Venetan agree in gender and number with the nouns they refer to, cf.:
 
  • toco grando big piece 
  • strada granda big (large) street 
  • tochi grandi big pieces; 
  • strade grande big (large) streets 
 
 
Gender and Number of the Adjectives
(Gènere e Nùmaro dei Agetivi)
 
As the nouns, the adjectives in Venetan  are gendered masculine or feminine.

Adjectives undergo predictable changes between masculine and feminine forms, and between singular and plural forms. These forms are the same as for nouns.
 
 
Adjectives of two forms (Agetivi a do fórme)

They have -e ending for masc/femin. singular and -i ending for masc./fem. plural:

Adjectives of four forms (Agetivi a quatro fórme)

These adjectives have endings -o, -n  in masc. sg., ending -a in fem.sg., ending -i in masc.pl. and ending -e in fem. pl. They behave like nouns. Be careful to vowel change.

Invariable Adjectives (Agetivi invariàbili)
 
Certain colors, especially compound adjectives or adjectives derived from nouns or adverbs, are invariable:

 
Short form Adjectives (Agetivi co fórma curta)
 
Some few adjectives have a contracted singular form when put before a noun and use the "normal" form when come after:
 
  • Only masc. sg.: 

    • un bel can a beautifu/nice dog
    un bel'omo a beautiful men
     
  • Masc. / fem. sg.: 

    • un gran palaso masc. a big palace
    gran parte fem. big portion
 
un can belo a dog [which is] beautiful/nice
un omo belo a man [who is] beautiful
     
    un palaso grando a palace [which is] big
    na parte granda a portion [which is] big

Comparative Degree (Grado Conparativo)

Comparative degree is formed analytically. Note that adjective agrees with the principal noun:

A very high mountain. A very strong storm.
 
Metaphors and similitudes in Venetan are not just a stylistic option, but they have a grammatical function just as the other periphrastical constructions. They don't depend on the "humour" of the speaker, but are often the easiest way to express an absolute superlative. The synthetical superlative is not of the the same importance as in Spanish or Italian and it's not often used.

A few adjectives have irregular synthetical comparative forms, inherited from Latin:
